out of ideas on this one HELP!!!

thanks

I just read and printed your thread on 'clunk' I am going to show it to the dealer (hope you don't mind) /tech working on my vehicle. They told me today my truck threw a code which indicates the MAF (or MAS??) don't remember... geez...

forgot

forgot.. I have an extended warranty till 100k miles. (truck has 69000 now) so I should be all set even if they have to replace the tcase... somehow I think the hard part will be getting them to do it...

thoughts?

the T case SHOULD be covered. Read your warranty.

don't know about warranty coverage or deductible but the Mass Airflow Sensor can be cleaned, there are instructions on this forum. I did it when i cleaned my Idle Air Control, which is also described on this forum. Good luck on the original problem, at least if it's your t case as mine was you have the warranty so it won't be as $$ as mine.

thanks

Yeah... about sept the dealer replaced the IAC... (under my warranty)... Tcase should be covered too... its a 'bumper to bumper' warranty... like I said, the big problem may be to GET them to replace it, etc etc... I really don't want to have this drag out for weeks...

btw...

BTW... how much did they charge you for a transfer case replacement??? just curious...

i had built up quite a labor charge for all the items that had been taken apart and reassembled. the dealership agreed to do the t case at their cost. i checked with the mechanic to see that he had gotten his time and when it was all send and done we settled around 2 grand. About what it would have been for a new case and labor . I did get a spare shift motor and i did get serveral worn items in the drivetrain renewed along the way. Oh, i had the cooling system flushed also so i can't really say what the case charge was.

they think they solved it

OK.. got my truck back today, they (dealer) think they got it... he said he WAS finally able to get the problem to occur when he drove it, he had the scanner on and said when it did occur, the MAS went dead. (Mass Airflow sensor? )... when this happened, it apparently did something to 'take out' (his term) the PCM and thats what caused my JERK, like I said when it happened at low speed, it was like the tranny shifted down and then back real quick. Guess this would kinda make sense right??? Time will tell. He said he drove it 100miles or so after doing the replacement, and it was ok. We'll see.. any comments.???

keep us up to date with this dave. a MAS is one heck of alot cheaper than a trans case!!!!

See I told you! hahaha fuel problem....The MAS is an important sensor for the computer engine management :P

Did they find the problem or just replace the MAS? Cuz I would suspect the wiring if it just goes dead or the circuit in the PCM itself. FIrst thing to do is test the MAS...but Ford dealer should have done that...

Hopefully it is fixed...keep us posted :)
