over 100mph in an explorer

Tires should be purchased for the needed safety and handling abilities. Don't buy any tire just to match some intended top speed. Do limit speed to what is safe and prudent.

There is no conventional roadway tire that is rated for that speed. Anyone who spends that much money for specialized tires to do that must have voted for obama.:afro:

I don't really think toyo proxes st's are "specialized tires" when you can get them just about anywhere, and for under $150 each. The also happen to have excellent traction, handle very well in the rain, and while cornering.

And this is where roll-over lawsuits against SUV manufacturers come from. It may be a "Sport Utility Vehicle" but the name is where the "sport" part ends. Anyone trying to do any sort of "cornering" in an SUV is just plain silly!

But in the interests of keeping the junk yards well supplied with parts for my explorer.... Please continue, and please try to wreck as close to my town as possible so I have an endless supply of parts and fancy tires for my explorer.

No it's not where the lawsuits come from...

he knows how to drive his truck, he knows the limits well. He also has modifications that allow his truck to be driven more aggressively.

And most importantly, he keeps most of it on the track, where it belongs.

The lawsuits come from people running ANY tire at too low of a pressure, and thinking a stock explorer will handle like a car in certain situations. It's about knowing the limits of your vehicle.

Think what you want. But just because your stock explorer won't go around a corner doesn't mean my modified one won't. I can guarantee if you were in mine blindfolded you would have no idea you were in a mountaineer/explorer.

Been to 105 in mine, but only for a second, then speed limiter kicked in and it goes down to 100.

Been to 160 in my 97 Firebird Formula when I had it. Felt like driving in a hurricane!

LOL. if you roll your SUV, because you were going at 110MPH, then what makes you think you have the right to go after the manufacturer!? (i drive at 130-140 all the time, but never would i even consider going after ford if i rolled it...)

2 on the gear indicator is the fastest I've felt good going, but that was on my old wobbly wheels (shake between 55 and 70), the motor had plenty of wind left then and should hit D no problem.

ive pegged mine out at over 120 numerous times. and mine is all stock as far as the motor anyways.

Go as fast as you can dont hold back get the gov. Off and push it

ive had 105 then it hits the limiter and i have to build it back up again i did have a 200sx that i had off the clock and i had 2 passangers but that was heavily modified and di blow up about a week later (shoot a piston out of the engine)while doing 140 that was a bit scarey

Well heres 135-137ish in my old 01 Civic Coupe.

Heres my 04 Mounty 4.0L FFV

My Mounty definitely knows what 107 is. My TomTom says I'm doing about 105-106 even though the speedo says 107. I did get my GPS to say 108 once but that was downhill :D

I had my mounty at around 95mph, and that was with BFG Mud Terrains....

It was suprisingly smooth....yet alittle loud! lol.

And my speedo was off about 3mph or so, i was probably doing more like 100.

It's actually got plenty of pickup/power past 80mph.
Its got a strong 3rd gear, just like my mustang does.

I did this on the factory BFG Rugged Trail T/A's 245/65/17's.

I have a little bit of pickup in the 90+ mph area and I've just got a V6. According to my TomTom my speedo isn't too far off from what TomTom says. It's usually 2-3 mph off at most once I get above 80 mph

wow I think I would be a little afraid to take mine over 90. I quite often get my 2005 corolla up to 95 on the parkway when nobody is around, I just dont realize how fast Im going.

I'm Active Duty Air Force, I drive so different vehicles a day and some are ALOT bigger than my Mounty. So when I'm driving my Mounty, I don't even really notice the speed I'm going.

I hardly ever look at the speedo, I usually just drive with everyone else, I pace off someone.

got mine to about 107 and the limiter kicked in lol. scared me at first, thought i broke something.

105 never had the room to push it more. my turbo crx on the other hand 135 and 4000 rpms to go.

Hit the brick wall, but not truely since the tire size is def than stock!!! So I actually only hit 106, and it felt just like going 65 somehow.
