I have a 2002 Ford Explore XLT. about 6 months ago I been having my O/D OFF light blinking. Now my overdrive still works when i press the O/D OFF button. when im on the interestate or anytime going above 45 MPH and i press the gas, my rpm tends to go up higher then normal. i took it to AAMCO and they say its the torque converter clutch not working but they say it would cost me about $1700 to fix it and they say it was also the transmition. everything works well but that. AAMC gave me this "P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance". does anyone knows what can be done. I heard that are many issues with this. I dont want to pay and then the problem still there.... anyone ???

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmisssion section. How many miles does it have? Was the solenoid block ever replaced? # 98 in my list of useful threads has information on this code.

That seems high. My '97 got a torque converter, tranny rebuild, and shift kit and it was around $500.
Then again, we have a friend who owns a transmission shop, so we probably made out like bandits.

But yeah the O/D blinking light for mine was also the torque converter. I would shop around a little to see if you can find somewhere cheaper. Or maybe some other members know more about the prices, because I really have no idea. :dunno:

EDSOX my 99xlt is doing the same but ive been gently revving the motor and it will then clunk into gear... time to fix huh

Mine 99 wont move in any gear?

May sound dumb, but check your trans fluid, it could be low, that happened to my friends Bonneville, the car wouldnt move in any gears until it heated up, and then would slam into gear, they were reeeeally low on trans fluid.

recently have done a trans filter and fluid flush still does the same thing. fluid level is right on

Replacing the torque converter and a trans rebuild should also include the valve body being replaced with a remanufactured and updated one or the same problem P0741 may exist. The bores and the valves in the torque converter circuit of the valve body wear and have to be repaired. A visual inspection won't show the wear.
