I have a 2000 XLT, V6 Shoc, four speed automatic with an overdrive transmission and 80,000 miles. I bought the car new and it is totally stock. I have never towed anything with the car. The vehicle will not shift into overdrive. The overdrive light is not flashing. The O/D light will come on if I hit the button on the control column stalk, but there is no change in rpm. I am running around 2400 rpms at 60 mph.
Last transmission fluid change was close to 50,000 miles ago. Can anyone help with some ideas as to what may be going wrong including what the costs may be?

Welcome to this forum! Check the adjustment of the overdrive band. The band might be broken if you can't adjust it. Other possibilities could be a dried out servo, bad solenoid, or a sensor is not providing the correct input to the PCM to tell it to engage OD. Check for stored codes before you replace parts.
