overhead console question

does anyone know if the power wire for the overhead console is switched power or constent power? does it get its power from the ignition or the battery?

It gets its power (indirectly) at ignition for the compass and temp. You cannot use those functions without the ignition on. However the map lights will work regardless of whether or no the key is on.
The wiring harness takes care of the split I believe.
If you're direct wiring it you can really do it however you please but that configuration makes the most sense.
