I'm putting and overhead console(temp/Compass) in my 91. I got the console BUT NO WIRE PIGTAIL. Been lookin for over a week can't come up with one. Looks like I'll have to fabricate some kind of plug to wire this thing. Can someone tell me what color wires correspond with the pins in the console?
BETTER YET IF SOMEONE HAS A PIGTAIL/HARNESS, SELL IT TO ME!!!!!

Come OOON, Not a single one of you has a damn overhead console? All it will take is 10 freaking minutes to unplug the thing and write down what color wire in the female connector goes what pin on the unit. It should be the same from '93-'01.

Does this help?

Not really, It dosent show me what pin those wires contact.

MarT YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, Thank You , Thank You. I saved the pics on my hard drive and printed a couple hard copies. I'm set now.

Where is the best place to hook up the wire from #3 pin, vehicle speed input?

This signal comes from VSS through a GRAY/BLACK wire to the tachometer and provides a parameter to the overhead console's computer in order to compensate wind effects. In fact, temperature sensor reads just fine without attach it.

You can splice it on conector C146 (I/P Panel) or conector C287 (Instrument Cluster).

MarT on this one everyone is wrong who thinks its wind chill. I got the info from a Ford Master Tech, he told me the VSS signal prevents the OHC computer from displaying temperature spikes from heat soak, IE sitting in traffic, parked on hot pavement, sunlight hitting the sensor.

At times of high heat as above the OHC will not display a temperature rise of over 2 degrees unless the vehicle is traveling at least 33mph for a specified time.( what that amount of time is, only the computer knows)With out the wire hooked up the temp reading will seeming "freeze" because the temp spiked quickly and the computer is looking for the signal to tell it its ok to rise.

So yes your console will display temp just fine without the VSS wire hooked up. In areas like mine(the arm-pit of hell Western Arizona) without it I would frequently get "stuck" temperature readings from the 180*-200* asphalt in June July, August, and September when the actual air temp is in the 110*-115* range. Or it my not read the actual ambient temp correctly coming from a very shady parked area(like my garage) into that hellish heat(garage=90* outside=110*). It will stay "stuck" on my garage temp till the next KO cycle.

Now it makes sense to me. Thank you.

For your 94, tap the gray/black wire at either the PCM or the speed control amplifier.

Thank you, so very much, for that great and thorough explanation! I have had mine installed for some time without the speed sensor wire hooked up and have the display "freeze" as you explained. Now I can take care of it.
