Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows how to re-wire a OVERHEAD CONSOLE off Ford Explorer 1997 V6 SOHC...

Can anyone please help me how to wire up this optional Console, i just bought this on online secondhand shop but my Explorer does not have this at all and wanted to make this option work...

The console has a Compass and Temp. I have the temp sensor and need to know where am i gonna put this into?
Im not sure what temp they wer talking about but good enough for me... Could be engine temp or water temp or temp outside or inside cabin...?

Please help!

Thanks heaps! That was very helpful...

1) Can you tell me where exactly the TEMP SENSOR? Is this sensor for engine temp or water temp or outside weather temp?

2) i would like to connect SPEED SENSOR option but where can i find that wire from inside cabin?

Please help, im at stage installing the overhead but later ill re-wire it soon i get the answers...

Thanks!;)

temp sensor is outside near the drivers headlight. you dont need to hook up the speed sensor. if you do want it, you will have to find what wire that is located at in your G.E.M.

Yes, the temp on the overhead console is outside air temp.

Here is a great on-line source for wiring diagrams:
Auto - Online Repair Info
http://search.ebscohost.com/
ID: rrcc
PW: rebsco
Select: Auto Repair Reference Center
Fill in: Find Your Vehicle
Follow prompts down to Wiring Diagrams.

I use this site all the time; the diagrams include pin identification and wire color, but not physical wire routing. I'm not sure how different the wiring might be if you have a RHD vehicle, but it might at least get you started.

bobflood...! thanks mate...

sorry for asking too much, im still trying re-wire this system and i found a wire just under the LHF carpet for the temp sensor, so i dont need to make a hole on the fire wall and run the wire all the way to the front but my question is where exactly the original wiring loom for this console? is it on the front pillar or middle pillar? Atlest it should have a original optional plug there so i can just re-joint it in and less hassle looking for wiring to power up....

please help...

Unfortunately, I don't have any info on the physical routing of the wiring harness. Based on the diagram, there are two wires to the temp sensor - DkBlu/Wht and DkBlu/Yel. As a suggestion, and unencumbured by any knowledge, I would pull the existing map light/dome light fixture down and see if I could tell where the existing wires go.

great info thanks for the link

drivers side "A" pillar, or the one that runs down the windshield, and the connector is by the fuse panel, in a not so easy spot to get to. if your adding one in, or something is wrong with the old one, it's not that hard to just run your own wiring. it took me about one and a haft to two hours doing the first one, 45 mins the second one i put in.

oh, wait, i just noticed you live in Sidney. if that is the case, i will not say drivers side, but the left side of the truck.

lmao... yeah no prob my friend, as i said before i found the 2wires for the temp sensor under LHF carpet and i just hooked up the dimmer into one of the light on the 4WD knob and i found a 12V power just behind my CD stereo...

its all good! but im just curious about this speed sensor, what does it do anyway.. im still not feeling 100% if there something left over wire

at this stage its all good and working fine...
