I have a 1996 Explorer 4.0L V6

Today I swapped out all of my spark plugs. I had some trouble with one plug, breaking off at the porcelain, but the threads and hub were still intact. I bought some PB and sprayed to loosen it. I managed to get it out, and swap the rest of my spark plugs.

Well my Explorer was running like a dream, when I glanced at the dash and noticed the engine overheating. It would range from about half way, and rise high enough to set off the "Check Gauge" light.

I turned the heat up, set the defrost, and rolled with windows down. I don't know if that was directly responsible, but the temp went back down to a normal range.

I stopped at my brothers house, and lifted the hood. Everything seemed okay. The coolant reservoir looks like it's low, but I cannot remember what it was earlier.

I started it up after 30 minutes. It started real rough, and died. Second time I was able get it going. It rode pretty good for about 5 minutes, then the temp began to go up (but not over the threshhold). I cranked up the heater and rolled the windows back down. The temp goes back down.

Got home, popped the hood, and everything seemed okay.

Not my everyday puddle jumper, so I have some time to troubleshoot.. Any help???

I agree, I doubt the two issues are related...just pure timing.
