Hello: I'm a HOOSIER with a 2005 Ford Explorer with a transmission problem. I found this site when looking for a fix for my Explorer. I'm hoping to find an answer to my problem.:salute:

When was the last time the fluid was changed? How do you know its overheating? Does it do it under normal driving conditions, or when towing? Do you have a trans cooler? Sorry for all the questions, but we need a little more info.

All 2002-2005 came with a trans cooler, it's kind of hidden away in between the radiator and the A/C condensor though. If you pop that plastic piece of the top of your radiator you can look down in between the rad and the condensor and see it at the bottom of that space.

What is the indication that it is overheating? Puking fluid?

overheating trans

The trans was shifting hard. I took it in and they changed the fluid and filter. It was shifting great until I got to some stop and go traffic. The message said transmission overheating and it kicked it out of overdrive. But the weird thing is the trans still shifted great. I took it back and they can't find out whats wrong. Yes I have a trans cooler and this was under normal driving conditions. The trans is not leaking.
