Owners of X's with 31x10.50 tires with NO LIFTs

A 265/70/16 is close to a 30.5/10.6 or so I believe. The only thing above that is the 265/75/16 which is an inch taller, probably won't fit without some slight trimming.

here's mine, 31's with no lift. i've got 3.27 gears and open carriers. i've lost a little acceleration, and maybe a mile or two a gallon. my speedo is probably 5 mph slow. my odometer reads .9 or so for every mile i drive. the left front tire just barely rubs the corner of the tupperware at full turn. they fit fine on my rims, stock 15x7. all terrain tires are very good for highway and light off roading. mine are pretty quiet for their size. treads are kinda aggressive and knobby too.
 






After reading this and reviews this morning i went and got myself a set of them. 31x10.5's. They look nice. Mounting them soon.

Recalibrate PCM after Oversized Tires

Well, I drove my 1998 Explorer for about 2.5 years on the 31" tires without having changed the speedometer (or gears). It was all OK, but it was slower acceleration, and I could tell the transmission had to work a little harder...it would chug longer between shifts...it would wait a longer time before gear changes. Also, when gearing down, when I would slow to 30 km/h, it would often have a slight "bang" sound. I brought truck to Ford dealership for some other minor maintenance (Universal Ford in Calgary)...and they know me, and so he asked if I had finally adjusted the PCM for the oversize tires. I said no. He estimated maybe $100 to adjust it. At the other place in town, MR SPEEDOMETER, he estimated $250 to adjust the speedo. At the end of it all, Ford charged me NOTHING to adjust the PCM. Now the speedo is accurate, the transmission is shifting smoother and quieter (just like BEFORE I put the 31" tires on it), and much quicker & easier acceleration (it's like the vehicle is working less now). Sure glad I have done the adjustment...because I like the feel of these tires. I would sure recommend to have this done.
 






Here's some pix of my rig before and after I mounting my new 31x10.5x15 BFG T/A KO on some Unique 15x8 crawlers. Had to do it myself after American Tire refused to mount them on my rig due to liability... gotta love the world since the lawyers took over!

In terms of width, what is a good tire size that will fit stock 15 with no rubbing?? looking for a nice wide tire
 












take a look at the manufacturer's specs on each of the tires you like. they ALL have 'different than advertised' actual dimensions. you'll see what i mean, here:

(look at the outside diameter, and the section width...which also factors on rim width too)

you cant really go much bigger than these with no lift and no REAL rubbing.

its not hard to use a few zip ties to pull your inner fender back a bit, but thats different than rubbing on your sway bar or worse.

my 31-1050s werent bad, you could just hear the treads rubbing the plastic a little with the wheel locked to one side.

Could a PCM adjustment from ford for the speedo give me back my Acceleration and smoother shifts? That doesn't seem right..

Would it affect my tune in any way?
 












Stock Rims

I have a 2000 EX 4 door with 15 inch stock rims. They are the tear drop style. What is the width on them?? I've seen some people say 8 and others say 7. Which is correct? Also, I like the style of the wheels sticking out past the fenders a bit and the widened stance.. If I were to mount 31x10.5 on the stockers and used a 1inch spacer would they rub on the outer fender?

Tbars, I have done research on this sight including the threads you have listed. I can't seem to find what the stock width of this rim is... I don't really want to buy new wheels if I don't have too... I see that 15x8 31x10.5 will not rub without lift but how bout 15x7's and 31.10.5's.? Thanks.
 






....You will be fine with either size wheel...The reason they specify 15x8 is that so many people think a 15x10 would not rub, but it will without the proper backspacing...

...X's that come stock with 16" wheels need a 16" wheel to go over their brake calipers and can not use a 15x8 wheel but rather a 16x8 wheel...The 8" size is a common industry standard size when ordering an aftermarket wheel...The 7" is made by Ford for some stock applications but is not as available when purchasing after market wheels...

...The tires can be up to 4"-4 1/2" max. wider than the wheel as in putting a 12.50 tire on an 8" wide wheel...

LOL....you could take my route....33's and no lift!!!
