My '99 Mounty with the 5.0L is throwing the P0442 check engine code. I know it isn't bad gasoline or the gas cap. I have refilled plenty of times and replaced the gas cap. I understand it could be a vaccume leak but need some assistance on where to check to see if it is leaking. I have a cold air intake so trying to listen for air leaks isn't easy. With the hood up all i can hear is the intake sucking air. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

evap leak code Po442

Yep, thats what it is. According to the haynes manual, "EVAP small leak detected". I really recommend this manual as it explains a lot that another book that shall remain nameless, doesn't provide. The system traps and stores vapors In the fuel tank, throttle body, and intake manifold during non operation.Anyway i would start along those lines. Spray carb cleaner along the evap system while running and see if the idle changes at any certain point. Careful of the exhaust pipe and your eyes. Anyway, good luck.

Without having to buy a manual can someone help me out here. I need to get this fixed so i can put the car up for sale.

any luck finding out what this was, my 5.0 just threw the same code.. i just cleared it, hasnt come back yet but id still like to investigate it... thanks again
