I've had a p0743 code for a long time. Hard downshifts and shuddering, and loss of off-idle power. I brought it to a shop who replaced the TCC solenoid. Light came back on less than a week later for the same code and they wanted to pull the torque convertor on a hunch. I said no guess work with my money, if the light comes back on Im not paying for the work. So they said no so the work wasnt done. They also did not reimburse for the solenoid so fought it through the credit card company and got my money back.
I brought it to another shop, this one was supposed to be the best transmission shop in the city. They replaced the valve body including all the solenoids. Less than a week later the CEL came on for the same code. I didnt return it right away. I drove on it for about 2 weeks and the CEL cycled on and off at least twice indicating an intermittent problem.
I brought it back to the shop who replaced the VB. They replaced the solenoid (this would be the 3rd time now) and wiring harness but the CEL stayed on. They tested the onboard computer and said it was fine. They cleared the code and it stayed off. So they called me to come pick it up and it was no charge. In total they had it for 11 days this time. I was renting a car during that time which wasnt cheap. I picked up the X last night. This morning on the way to work the CEL came on. I have not scanned the code but I can tell by the way it was driving/shifting that its the same problem.
With the holiday, I wont be able to get back to a mechanic until the week after next or later. Really fustrating. 11 days... they could have rebuilt the transmission 3 times in that time but couldnt fix a the problem.
