2006 Explorer Limited
Ok, so I made a previous thread about this a long time ago and I thought it was solved but it is back. I bought our 2006 explorer limited from a ford dealer near me 03/2017. When we took it for a test drive, the check engine light came on. The code was the P2270 O2 sensor signal stuck lean bank 1 sensor 2.

I told the dealer I wanted it fixed and even verified what the code was myself before buying the car. I figured it was just an 02 sensor no big deal. The dealer replaced the 02 sensor and everything seemed good for a few weeks. Then the light came back on and that's when I contacted the dealer as well as posted on here. I inspected the wiring but didn't see anything wrong. I re-cleared the code and for whatever reason, it disappeared for several months. (Also the two people I had emailed about my issue never responded from the dealership but whatever....

Fast forward to today and I got sick of looking at the check engine light and crawled underneath to inspect everything again. When I pulled back the cable loom I found this...

Apparently the dealer had never "hooked" the 02 sensor wiring back into place with the clip and the wires were rubbing on what appears to be the transmission pan.

I separated the wires and just electrical taped around each one where the break is to see if it would fix the issue. I added new wire loom and clipped the wiring up where it was supposed to go. I cleared the code and told my wife to let me know if it reappeared. Well, it stayed off for a day and then reappeared. My question is could the damaged wires touching each other have damaged the 02 sensor?

Certainly possible. I'm a big fan of the heat shrink rubber wire cover. I would be inclined to replace the o2 sensor. My $0.02. Especially if it's the original O2.

Update: I fixed the wires that were rubbed through and and replaced the 02 sensor and the problem seems to be fixed.
