1996 Explorer XLT, Black, UA paint code. Bought new.....
Rear Liftgate has the somewhat matte paint between the two pieces of horizontal trim. It is faded. I tried a bit of compound on it, but I can tell it is 'thin' so I put that on hold for the time being. Maybe time to just try to put some new paint on it. The original paint that was protected by the trim or seal is definitely 'brighter/darker', but I wouldn't call it 'gloss'.
Is there an actual paint code for that trim area? For such a small area, I'm assuming I'd be better off (i.e. cheaper) just trying to find a rattle can equivalent. I've searched the forums here and find some general direction (Krylon, etc.) but I can't find an actual Mfr # in any of the posts. I have a can of Krylon Acrylic Lacquer 1613. Some said to put clearcoat over it, but I don't typically do that (and the original OEM doesn't seem to be clearcoated), so trying to get confirmation on the clearcoat.
