Keying Car = free paint job?

Well, i have been thinkin about a paint job for some time now, but shelling out the doe just isn't sounding that great. First off, how would a paint job the same color be if the car was already prepped?

Ok, how bout costs of a pre-prepped paint job?

I love my X, plus all the things i have put on it. I just want it to look new again. There is a faded spot right under the right rear door window that really pisses me off, and there are all kinds of stuff on the hood like chips, bugs, sap, stuff that just doesn't look any good and that i don't want to be there, but it doesn't come off. How much you think it would be if i took the shop a prepped Explorer...maybe even if i bought the paint and everything,,,,and just have them shoot it.

Have you tried the more expensive paint treatment systems out there? Zaino and Meguire's can literally make your paint like new again.

I might try that Zaino stuff. I just don't see how it could fix an already faded spot. PLus i have chips and what not.

maybe you can get some used paint on e-bay that comes in the shape of your x.

haha...that would be nice...paint shaped like my Explorer. Haha...that's great. I guess i will see what it would cost for a pre-prepped paint job. Thanks for all your input.

yeah , prepping it yourself will save some $$.
i preeped my race car myself and had a local maaco shoot it.just look at some work from different shops.
there are good painters everywhere.mine was a quickie job as most of the car is covered with decals anyway and racecars up close are ugly anyway.just remember,
a paint job is only as good as the prep work under it.

Yea, i know. I got a friend downt the street that are alwasys restoring old 60's Muscle cars. His dad is just finishing up a 67' Nova and my friend and I, we're only 16, just dropped in his Boreed out BLOWN 350 into his 67' Camaro. It is estimated to put out well over 700 hp. But, anyways, they paint there cars themselves, and sometimes they get a little orange peel in the paint because they don't have a paint booth to really paint in. It takes them forever to sand it down, and shoot it with clear again each time it messes up. They told me that they would prep my X for me for free, and they are people that only do it right. So, i figure that i can get them to prep it, then have Macco or sumthin shoot it for me....anyone have a "in the ball park" estimate for me of how much that might cost?

they did mine for 350.

Yours was already prepped? Where did you take it that did it for $350. Did you happen to have connections with the guys who painted it? How did the paint job turn out.....any orange peel or fish-eye....that just sounds really freakin cheap....

yeah,i prepped it.they just primed it and painted it.
i did not know anyone there.the car is a 86 Z28 and had no windows in it at the time and junk wheels and tires.
also the interior was gutted and i had to paint the interior and cage afterward anyway so overspray was not a concern.all lights , license plate hdwr.mirrors etc
are also gone so they did not need to mask or tape anything.thats why it was so cheap.if you prep it yourself and drop it off so all they have to do is mask it,
prime it and finish prep and shoot it.a good paint job
should cast about $1000.
