painting chrome rims?

i just got a set of free 15" american racing rims from my uncle for my x. there chrome but have surface rust on them. what can i use to get rid of the chrome/rust? also what would you suggest paint wise for painting them after there done?

I think theres a special "rim" paint, ive seen it at Murrays before
 






if they are steel, you can take a wire wheel on a drill, or sand them depending how bad the rust is. use some epoxy primer on them. after that you can use regular automotive paint just like you where painting a car. i have done this with both steel rims, and aluminum.
 






if you dont really care about touching them up just sand them down spray bomb whatever color you want and if it chips just redo it and you wont have to worry about them getting scratched like you would if you did it with expencive automotive paint
