painting running boards?

the runnnings boards on my 92 have a aluminum side to them but the top is black.
i would love for them to be all black.

is there a way i can paint them?

i was thinking that like truck bed spray would work...
it seems like its gotta be pretty durable

any other ideas are more then welcome

come on guys, i really hate the way the running boards look, but i don't want to take them off.
