with the ignition "on", not started, are the rear parking/brake lights meant to come on? I have seen conflicting answers to this question, and is this different when the vehicle is running?

This is all coming to a head after I replaced the daytime running light module, as the parking brake also influences the running lights (shuts them off when the parking brake is engaged, then on again when the brake is released)
thanks!

I don't believe the rear lights come on. From my 96 schematics there is no connection between the DRL's and the rear stuff.... only your DRL lights come on. On my truck, the DRL do not shut off with the park brake engaged. There is a connection from the park brake switch thru the DRL module... and the "little schematic has an "arrow" to "drl disengage". But mine doesn't do that either??? also???

Just checked the 98 schematics, and again, there is no connection between the DRL module and the parking lights. The parking brake signal does disable the DRLs, but there's still no connection to the parking lights there.

Are you having an issue with the new unit not working properly or something?

double checking...

I wasn't sure if the module linked the brake lights...but the module appears to be fine...I had to lube the pin on the parking break switch before it was working properly, so now, so far so good.
I must have misread some info somewhere on a search.
thanks

Parking brakes do not activate brake lights.

Actually, they activate the 'BRAKE' light on the dash. :P :P

They also DE-activate the DRLs.

But no, they should not illuminate the parking lights or brake lights on the exterior of the vehicle. :P
