In my old car I used to cruise with my parking lights/fog lights on when it was like dusk outside, but now in my '95 XLT I can turn the parking lights on, but the fog lights don't come on with the parking lights, only when I turn on the headlights. Anyone know if they are supposed to come on with the parking lights and I have a broken connection somewhere, or if they're not? Also, if they're not supposed to come on with the parking lights, anyone know how I can make them come on with the parking lights? Thanks for any info...

I have a seperate button on the right side of the radio for my fog lights.

They are supposed to come on only with the headlights. There are a couple of threads out there on how to wire them so they will come on with the parking lights. You may want to try a search for them.

That still only works with the headlights on.

I read this post with instructions...

But I'm a little confused... it says to cut the DG/LB wire, and then attach 12" of wire to it... what kind of wire am I attaching? Also, do I need to put in a fuse here just in case? And the parking light wire (brown) do I just splice the wire in there or how do i attach it?

Thanks guys

I dont think you need a fuse. What you're doing is bypassing the relay in a way. The relay decides when you get a ground and when you dont. What your're doing is wiring into the parking light circuit so you use its ground. I plan to run a wire to the radio fuse or something like that, always have a ground

Let me know what you end up doing, because I get a lot of conflicting reports on this. Which wires go where etc

When I had my fogs, I rewired them to run totally independent of everything. Instead of running that 12" wire to the parking light circuit, I ran a longer wire around to the fuse panel and attached it to my radio fuse. Then I could turn the fogs on and off with the switch whenever I wanted to and they would go off when I shut the car off.

So do I have to go out and buy some extra wire? If so, what kind of wire should I be getting?? And how did you attach the longer wire? Just twist them together and wrap 'em in electrical tape?

14 or 16 gauge stranded wire will be fine. Use decent connectors to connect the wires, such as a crimped coated wire nut, a good butt connector, or a screw-lock connector like posi-locks.

16 or 18 gauge wire should be good. Use wire connectors wrapped in electrical tape. 10 feet of wire should be enough.

gracias

Thanks guys... I'm gonna go buy the wire tomorrow. What other tools did you guys need when doing this?

Wire cutters/strippers and a 6 pack.

Thanks guys... the help is much appreciated. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm also planning on taking photos of each step, so then some of the questions on 'what is where' etc can be answered...

If you do, do this please let me know what you did. I saw the other right up about it but with his X being a 98 something might be different about it.

Thanks.

It should be soon, as I'm planning on getting the wire/connectors etc tomorrow after class, and then Saturday during the day I'm gonna do it, and hopefully I'll get some good pics of it too.... I'll keep you guys posted...

these might help...

Here's some pictures i took when i did this a few months ago. I just found somewhere to host them, so hopefully they'll show up now.

Alright I'm getting two different sets of instructions... taxxman told me to cut the wire between the headlights and the relay, and then I'm not really sure what to do from there..... but you said to get the wire from the fog lights in the relay, and take that one to the parking light wire. Please clarify.... thanks.
