Part number for 1997 4X4 Speed Sensor

Hi there,

Can someone please post the ford part number for the 1997 ford explorer 4x4 v6 speed sensor that goes in the back of the tranny.

hey tom,

I don't have a part number for you.....but i did replace my speed sensor recently and had some problems. I took the old sensor to the parts store and asked for another one. They found it in the computer and went to get it. The part numbers did not match for some reason.....they did not have any speed sensor with the same number as my sensor. strange. so i looked at the new sensor and the 2 were very close but not identical. The new one was missing a plastic gear looking tip. (on the end that goes into the transfer case) We were all puzzled.....so finally i ended up taking that gear shaped tip off of the old one....and putting it on the new one and I have had no problems. I don't know if this helps you any....but good luck

John thanks for that! Im glad to know someone else is getting the same problems. Did the tanny go funny when this was going on also?
