I took my 98 explorer 5.0 in to the local muffler shop. they called to say that it was leaking between the the manifold and the engine, but they said they dont really get into that. I'm like what? he said there's not much room in there and if a stud breaks theres no room for him to work on it. i said you did my truck. they said they do the trucks because there is room to work on them. I have another shop to call but i'm afraid i may be doing this on my own. I hate exhaust.

you take off the plastic fender flare floppy thing when you take off the tire and see engine through there. It just unclips pulling it too you. That's how you do it

I did my 98 5.0 over the summer. I sprayed the manifold and exhaust bolts with PB Blaster for about a week.Everything went fine. The egr tube was some what of a pain, just make sure to get the egr nut started on the new manifold before you tighten the new manifold down

Some have said it wasnt too bad, i may try to do this. I'm not looking forward to it but it has to be done. Today i had to replace both sway bar links as they were both broken. While i was there i looked under the rubber skirt and I cans see how you do this.

Just spray the thing multiple times a day with PB blaster for a week or 2 before you do the job. Unless you have to drive the truck then that's kind of tough because it will just burn off. I got all mine out of my 96 5.0 without breaking them.

They're not as bad as the F-150's 97-03. those things are horrible. Done that job about 4 times now and I wouldn't do it again if someone paid me $1000. Absolute nightmare. 2 4.6 trucks and 2 5.4's I've done. The 5.4's are easier because of the taller deck height but still a royal pain in the ass especially if you break a stud.

might as well just put some headers on it

I found out today its not the manifold! it's the EGR tube. Putting a new one on tomorrow. So glad it's not the manifold.
