Hello, i have a 02 limited explorer. I noticed the other day when vacuuming under the mat on the front passenger side it was SOAKED with water.

But why? i also noticed the air coming from the passenger side a/c vents is nowhere near as cold as my driver side? Is this problem related? Are there seperate a/c lines for the passenger that could be leaking underneath the carriage??

Is it water or does it have a more slippery feel? The possibilities are that you left a window open and it rained, or your heater core may be leaking. It's tucked up underneath the dash on the passenger's side, and is the most likely culprit.

Don't think it's the A/C...

That's where the heater core would leak, smell it. If it's just water, and has not been raining, check to see if the A/C condensor drain tube has become clogged or dislodged from the hole where it goes through the floor.

thanks for the replies fellas, its water , not slippery, has no smell to it really. no windows were down, i think this has been going on for some time as after i took the mat out and let it sit out i nioticed the underside rubber appears to have SLIGHT white mold on it.

The spot is about 10x6. its wet from the bottom door trim to about the width of the seat and about 7 inches from the edge of the seat forward. its not wet under the dash at all.

Im kind of confused i will look for the drain tube. keep you posted

Ok spent 15 mins looking for the tube, nada. can anybody give me a pinpoint description of where it is or shall i say SHOULD because i don't see it

The drain tube is on the firewall about dead center in the middle. When they're working properly, they tend to dribble towards the driver's side. We just had a Caravan with a plugged drain tube with the same problem. Usually you can fish a pipe cleaner or piece of mechanic's wire up in the tube and clean it out. Finding them can be tricky though. Look where the heater hoses and A/C lines lead into the vehicle, and it should be almost directly below that.

Same problem

I have a 2003 xlt explorer and I'm having the same issue. I've looked as well and can't seem to find it. I've dropped the glove box, looked at the center bottom as suggested inside by the firewall and outside, but no tube that I can find. If anyone has pictures, I'd appreciate it.

yeah i had this problem on my 02 dodge ram it was the heater core but heres the catch, i had anti freeze in my passenger side floor.

I had an old Nissan pickup that used to do this. It had a drain tube on the firewall and you had to run a clothes hanger or something up it and dislodge whatever trash was in there blocking it. Once you did this it would drain about a gallon of water. It was good to go for about a year after that then it had to be done again.

If my explorer did this that is the first thing I would try.

my AC started to smell in my 96 explorer so I had to look for the drain tube outside on the firewall to spray a foaming cleaner inside that I bought at Autozone.

Anyway, I passed over the tube multiple times before I realized it was it. On the 96 it almost looks like a large gromit with a nipple on it. Like maybe a wire should be in it. But there is a hole in it that allows condensation out of the AC system

Keep looking you'll find it.
Have you never seen a wet spot on the ground under the firewall where the AC Drops when you are parked? That should lead you to it.

Update:

I could not find the tube for the life of me, so i just took it down to a little mom and pop local a/c/radiator place.

conclusion. the drain tube was plugged, they cleaned it out with a wire and they charged the a/c for a tad because the passenger side was warm also which it is now cold, he said theres probably a very small leak in the evap and it would probably need to be replaced in about 40k miles.

Although i still think theres a relation with the clog and the sudden warm air on the pass side only

If you have auto temp control, it could have just been a blend air door that got stuck.

Did you ask them to show you where the tube is so you could clean it out again if needed?

update again. Cleaning car once again the other day the mat had water on it again, carpet slightly wet.

what gives here? why would the A/C condenser drain tube be plugged AGAIN in less than 2 weeks? What the hell could be plugging it up? is it just fubared and needs a R&R?

More junk inside the HVAC box probably found its way into the drain tube, clogging it once more. Otherwise, the water could be coming up from the carpet padding below. Only way to find out if the tube is clogged is to run the A/C and see if you get water underneath the vehicle after a while. If not, the tube is most likely clogged again.
That's why I asked if you saw them do it so you could do it yourself if it happened again. I have one customer with a Caravan that plugs up about once or twice a year during A/C season. I showed them where to clean it out themselves, but it's a PITA to get to, so they just bring it to me, and happily pay a few bucks labor to get it done.

Ok, I was cleaning the inside of my 2000 Northface and noticed the floor wet on drivers side,(UK rhd model).
I have sunroof, and a/c, it was just water.........I have checked all the fluid levels and am not loosing anything, I spent the day drying out the carpet and the underlay with 2 hairdryers instead of finishing cleaning- just cant find were the water is coming from, so I siliconed the wndscreen rubbers all the way round as a precaution- any more ideas folks?
PS, I checked my door rubbers and they all seem fine, intact and in the right place, no gaps or breaks in them, compared both sides to make sure they are sitting right!

Went out today, and checked the sunroof drain holes, both running clear, used a shringe to check water in and out- all measured right, both sides.
The carpet was a little damp, but not like before, assuming that it was condensation from were I never dried the car fully. poored water on the windscreen with the carpet up, no water, poured water on the sunroof, no water, maybe it was the seal around the windscreen- I hope I have fixed it now, looksa like it- yippee for silicone sealant!
