2004 Ford Explorer xlt passenger front window went down and won't go back up. None of my windows were working when I got the truck a couple months ago unless the driver door was open, than I could roll down the driver's side only. After researching I discovered the wires in the boot between the driver door and frame were broken. I got them fixed and windows working except passenger. I removed the panel part with the buttons for up and down and discovered it wasn't plugged in. Plugged it in and window went down.... now it won't go up! I've triple checked the wires in the boot, checked fuses, beat the door, open and slammed the door several times and nothing! I don't live in the best area and worried someone will help themselves in my truck. I don't have any electrical power checking tolls, I'm lucky I know how to put air in a tire yall. I've been googling for days and nothing makes sense! It won't work from driver side or passenger (obv) I've taken the button panel thing off a back door and hooked it to the front and nada. I've read thread after thread on here and honestly nothing makes sense to me. I don't work on cars, I know nothing about cars and don't have the money to bring it in, especially if it's something simple. It didn't make noise going down, doesn't make noise now, just dead. Any idea what part would be broken and is it a simple part to put in? Idk how to remove the panel but can look it up more or ask a neighbor if need be. Please respond with very simple terms as I don't know car lingo, I'm just a girl with no clue what I'm doing. Thanks in advance!!

do the locks work? that can eliminate the master switch if so (for now), if so then could be somethng like the motor, gears coulda broken, do the lights dim much when you press the switch? im forgetting at the moment, but i assume it trips a relay and causes it to ground so it goes up/down, but not too sure on that one. not super familiar w the 3rd gens, most familiar w 2nd gen, then 4th gen...

Locks work, don't notice any surge with power when hitting button, not even a single sound. Would pics be of any use of the panel?

It's possible that the window is disconnected from the regulator or that the regulator is disconnected from the door. There are allot of parts that can rust and break in these things. If you remove the panel, you should be able to manually push the window up and wire it in place. By doing that you can secure it for the time being. Having a look at the regulator may also help you see what is wrong.

Regulator an motor assemblies are not that expensive by you might find it difficult to install yourself.

Took off panel and it won't even go up manually. :'(

Had a similar problem when I bought my 05'. The passenger rear door window didn't work doing the test drive (that helped me to get a slightly better price). Over the last couple of years it comes and goes. Usually I'll just open and slam the door shut and it starts working for months, kind of like tapping a starter motor to get it to work.

wonder if soemthing is binding... we shoudl go nback to manual windows!! :D did they used to work? if so, anything unusual when it stopped?

So, none of my windows were working I found out after I bought the truck (bought private seller, didn't test drive due to my anxiety issues and idk what I'm testing anyways) but if I opened my driver door I could roll my window down. After researching I discovered it was a bunch of broken wires in the boot thing between the door and frame and fixed those and even got my rear view mirror dimmer to work! Didn't know what the button was for. Anyways, I rolled the window up and down but not fully down cuz i was so proud of myself than my daughter rolled it down fully and it's been stuck since. Good feeling went bye-bye. One of the cables was off but don't know if it's from so many people looking at it or if it was like that. It's still down, my window is plastic packaging tape, my heart and pride hurt along with my brain.

Here's a pic of the door with the panel off. Idk if the motor (?) Is in the right spot or not cuz it looks like it was mounted to something with the foam stuck to it. To fix the passenger window I had to plug in the plug thing to the button. Well, now I know why it was unplugged. B*sterds ;)

Lemme try that again. It was being weird and telling me to wait like 2 mins after I posted. Aside from being thick headed and determined idk how I made it this far in the process cuz I can't even figure out my tire size for new tires! 🤣

My guess is a broken wire in the loom in the space between the door and the car body. Lots on youtube on trouble shooting and repair. If all the windows don't work it most likely is a powersupply problem. Start at the fuse block as it is easy to check.
