1996 Ford Exploder, 4.0 L
Hello Folks, My name is Scott and I own a 1996 Ford Exploder, 4.0L, 4D, 2WD, which up until now, refuses to die! Bought it 3 1/2 years ago and the transmission was failing then... It's still running. wrapped the hood around the windshield... Twice, doing about 75 MPH down a highway, peeled the tread off a tire doing the same speed, on and on and on. This little truck and I have been on some serious adventures in the time that I have had her. But now she won't start... To help a friend start his truck, I pulled my battery and put it in his truck. Hindsight is great, don't need no lessons there!! I have read forums from all over, to include this one, yet none of the suggestions has worked for mine. Find the brown wire, ground it out. Find the dark green/purple wire, ground it out. 4 white wires? don't exist. I can't even do any of the normal stuff, because my steering column has been slowly falling apart. No reverse or park on the column. The ignition switch failed and I had to install a run/kill switch. Where or how do I find the stupid module to end this once and for all. I have been without transportation for a week now and it is getting really old

There is no Pats in 96. It sounds like you may have many issues with your steering column, I'd grab one from a junkyard 96 or 97 truck and swap it in to see if any of your gremlins go away.

No PATS until 1998.

Yeah this is the problem with hacking an alternate way to *fix?* something. If you don't get the broken part replaced then something else goes wrong, now you have to question more than one possible fault, and nobody else is going to have it easy figuring out what's what.

Whenever possible I'd try to keep the vehicle in a state where if you had to take it to a shop (which nobody wants to do, lol, but anyway...) someone familiar with these vehicles knows what they're dealing with, which also includes fellow owners here.

I would undo whatever mods you've done and replace them with a working ignition switch module. Once you have done that, then other suspects can be ruled out one by one.

boominXplorer has the simplest solution, transplant as many parts as needed from a donor vehicle at a junkyard.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated! Searching for an entire column as we speak. Are there other things I should check that do not involve the column itself? I don't have a manual for the truck and that sometimes prevents me from "GOOD" brainstorming.
