Okay, I have posted in other places and now I will ask you guys.
I have always and always will disconnect the negative battery cable to reset the PCM after a mod or after, and this is the key, I have remedied the CEL. That has always worked.
I will not bore you with the details, but I had a guy at a parts place tell me that doing the disconnect thing won't work. The reset has to be done with a reader/scanner.
This is OBDII.
Is this guy blowing smoke or smoking blow.?

IMO, if you've fixed the problem that caused the CEL and reset the computer by disconnecting it, that is ok. The code should disapper. However, if you're resetting the computer the clear a code that hasn't been fixed, the code will resurface and you're just fooling the computer and yourself.

That being said, it is better to clear a code with a scanner than by disconnecting it. But if disconnecting it's all you got, then go for it.
