the PCM (powertrain control module) went out on my 93 Eddie B. I called Ford and they want $280.00. I've tried the local junkyards with no success. Does anybod know where I can get a PCM for less cashola?

I've seen aftermarket parts places like Checker, Autozone, Napa, etc. carry PCM's. They are probably "reconditioned" units, but I believe they put a warranty on them.

Often member part their trucks out on here. You just need to be sure the computer codes match.

$280 isn't that bad.

$280 at Ford will get you a remanufactured POS computer. It will have the "newer" Ford profile for your engine and your engine will run with noticable less power (de-tuned).

They can be hard to locate but they are out there for sure.
Advanced Auto Parts in Colorado has them in stock, but you will need your computer code from your truck.

Many junk yards have them, usually on a shelf somewhere, you have to go search for yours.

I have bought several of them from local used part suppliers and also from U pull it type junk yards. Anywhere from $30-60

I had a Ford re-maned unit and it lasted 1 month before it failed. Also ford tried to not warranty it saying that the wiring harness it was connected to was modified, so make sure you ask about your warranty...I did and it ended up saving me $300+.

I have noticed that many of the Gen I trucks are getting up there in years and the computers are getting older and failing. These problems are hard to diagnose because the problems are often intermittant.....

Thanks for the help guys

I've got one from a '92 for sale. It is in good cosmetic and working condition. I bought it because I thought my computer was fried, but it turned out to be something else.

- the code on it is F27F-12A650-YB.

If you have this code on yours, then it is compatible.

$50 + shipping.

My budget is a cheap as possible. If I have to pay out I will but I really don't want to. Would like to spend the money on something else.

Luke let me check the numbers and see. If they are compatilble we just might have a deal

You might want to try Ford parts Network. Personally, I like to stay away from any junk yards for electronic parts like a computer or anything. You never know what your going to get. I feel more confident having something with a good warranty.

Fordpartsnetwork has new ECMs for $250... its only $30 off... but it is better

Hey lukedog thanks for the offer but that's not my computer code:(
