I've been going through some sites and looking at chips hypertech and jet for example. they all say to use premium 92 octane fuel. Seeing how gas prices suck right now i was wondering if any has installed a chip and if so do you use the premium fuel thanks

The reason the chip requires you to run premium is because they all advance the timing to help generate more power. Using premium helps prevent detonation because of the advanced timing.

You gould get an Apten switch chip. But if gas prices are a concern you might as well hold off on it for now.

You can get a chip from Apten that has an 87 octane program, stock program and a 93 octane program

Further, you can get a Flasher from Apten that will do the same.

Apten also offers a fuel economy program for their chip

In a recient E-Mail to Apten I was told by someone from apten that the chip would not do anything for my 1st gen trannie because it is not computer controled. But they did say that I could get better performance with their 1st gen chip but only using premium gas. They said that I would not see any performance increase using 87 octaine.

92 is under 2 bucks more each fill-up. It's not that bad for the excellent performance you get in return.

preciate all the info
