I'm thinking about getting a newer X. The OHV just doesn't have enough UMPF! I know there are a lot of performace accessories for the 302.

What is available for the SOHC V6, and what are the gains?

Thanks.

I believe the single best mod for the SOHC is a custom Apten chip, coupled with a cat-back exhaust/intake upgrade. My chip really improved performance all-around. Gas mileage is never below 20, and thats 90% city driving and a heavy foot. Ive seen 25 mpg on long interstate trips, compared to a top of 21-22 before chip/exhaust. Mine is burned for 92 octane and an overall performance attitude. The shifts are much firmer and it finds the gear youre looking for quick when you're stepping on it. I wouldnt be shy in saying that with these mods, Ive gained 15+ horsies and 8-10 ft/lbs of torque. Its a night and day difference with the chip.

I have a 40 series flowmaster, single out with 2.5" piping, cut my air box and dropped a K&N in there. Next purchase will be the entire FIPK system from K&N. None of the mods I have mentioned have/will blow you away by themselves, but together they breathe some life into the V6. Only had V8 power before this, and Im not disappointed with this engine at all.

I had a SOHC but finding serious parts for horsepower are the problem next one is going to be a V8 or OHC 4,0
after my truck had some modes it ran great but your limited

frj00- You'd rather have a 4.0 OHV? I'll trade ya!;)
I wish I had a SOHC...:( ...

Yeah, frj00 I'll trade you the OHV I have for your SOHC any day...that'll be an immediate 35hp gain right off!

Does the chip run any risk of causing damage to the engine? Do i have to burn 92 octane with it?

the chip won't hurt the engine at all. Also, if you want to be able to run regular gas, we sell a flip chip that lets you switch between gas grades. Here's the chip info, pricing, and FAQ.

The motor is long gone, but the chip issues did not cause any problems I often ran 89 octane daily but also used 92 on up and no knocking or pings I have even ran 87 but for best performance use the higher octane
