I wish the weather would cooperate and let me install my tow hooks. Rained yesterday it rained... Today is drying out and windy.... Hopefully tomorrow I will get my tow hooks bolted up. Otherwise, I'm ready to roll and make some big splashes...

Yea guys just so you know, those two main areas for wheeling in the pines can be accessed easily by stock trucks, even 2wd. Once you're back there you climb the hills, go through mud, etc. So you won't have to leave your explorer on the road or out of side

Thats good cuz Ive only got 2wd right now maybe tonight I can slap on my Tow Hooks as well at the shop, BTW weather forecast for the area for Fri,Sat,Sun

Friday: Heavy Rain, High of 51
Saturday: Partly Clouday, High of 49
SUNDAY: Clear/Mostly Sunny, High of 48

Atleast there will be plenty of mud.

Lots of stock/semi-stock rigs on this run!

Does everyone have safety gear/CB Radios/Tow Points, etc?

Someone has got to find out who owns my explorer so we can get him/her out wheeling with us in the pines! I know of some obstacles first hand that I would love to see how it performs (I never got a chance to fully test the locker and manual T-case...)

I would love to see the triumphant return of your Explorer. It was one of my inspirations when I first found this site for what I wanted my rig to look like and be able to do. I actually have the photo of your X in a water crossing up to the headlights on my wall along with a photo of Rick's rig and "The Mutineer" covered in mud. :D

And I'm covered with safety - two hooks front and rear, CB, safety flag, fire extinguisher, hi-lift, two 20' tow straps. Just missing an axe and a few other goods.

i have my big ass tow strap that i tie around my bumper never broke it and i used it to pull 2 blazers out,and i have the 2 in the front that are in the bumper from the factory,no cb though, but ill have 2 phones with me when i go

I have a CB (need a fuse), cell phone, Tow strap (brand new), there are a few fire extingushers in my house I have to grab one, I have a tow chain somewhere too although I know straps are prefered, I should have a shovel/pick/ax/saw combo by the end of the week. My only tow point is my Reese Hitch - nobody by me seems to carry tow hooks (I'll have to look into the speed shops), I'll be picking up a tool box and first-aid kit this week end.

EDIT: I can probly grab the safety flag from my boat and use it.

Also, everyone make sure you bring digital cameras so we can take plenty of pictures. Everyone loves photos of themselves blowing through mud holes and whatnot, and seeing as you cannot take them yourself, you have to rely on others. Come ready to help out! :D

Also, I am removing everyones numbers from the master list on page 7 (I think). I have the numbers down in my records, and everyone has had a chance to write 'em down. I'd rather not be responsible for posting someone's number in a public forum, forgetting about it, and having it there for eternity. If you posted your own number, it's up to you to go back and edit it out if you want.

a good idea for future runs is that everyone should PM their real name, site name, phone number and email address to the offroad run 'leader'. He/she then Emails the list to everyone prior to the run :salute:

Everyone loves photos of themselves blowing through mud holes and whatnot,

That reminds me, to any 4x4 newbies... when going through water speed is NOT your friend. Water no deeper than 2 feet can hydrolock your engine if you hit it doing 20+ mph and create a huge splash. I dont have a picture of me doing this (though it did), but sapogmxr learned the same way and i caught it on camera

This is at Lebanon

im charging my batteries the night before for my digital camera, and my buddy thats coming along has his camcorder that hes bringin,we're gonna leave his house around 6:00 am to be sure that were there by 8:00 at wawa

Other Pine Barrens Spots

I know you guys are set on going to Wharton for this run, but have you ever considered a run to the Forked River area (GSP Exit 73) or the Tuckerton area (Approximately GSP Exit 58)? There is a great variety of stuff in these areas to challenge anything from stock trucks to even the most built mudding rigs. I live off GSP exit 98 and I think these areas are completely worth the drive.

By Wharton are you referring to the Manchester area?

Don't know a thing about Forked or Tuckerton. Details would be appreciated. As for where we're going, sk1er laid out all the details earlier in the thread, complete with satellite images and diagrams. Not really Wharton anymore.

I've been to Forked river... i thought that area has been sort of closed down and it's illegal to wheel there? Where exactly do you go, and is it legal?

Forked River

Forked River has had an array of entrances created that have been blocked off time and time over. However, I believe the local government just threw in the towel in terms of attempting to stop people from getting into the expanse, and there is a large trail right off of the southbound parkway exit that people enter through. Local authorities aren't a huge fan of people going back there, and I was once pulled over leaving the trail. However, I was just informed that there are a lot of cutthroat local kids back there, and that it would be a bad idea to leave my rig unattended for an extended period of time. Everytime I make a trip there, which is maybe once every 2 to 3 months, I see the same Yotas back there so the locals obviously don't get hassled too much.

Despite the semi- sketchy picture I painted for you guys, it's a great place to wheel, and has a bit of everything. The place is an endless expanse with trails branching off in every direction.

Yea i used to wheel that area back in highschool. Thing is, now im 23 and getting married, have a full time professional job and want to buy a house and have kids.... last thing i need on my plate right now is any sort of tresspassing charge.

I ONLY wheel where i know it's legal.... 'maybes' and 'i think' don't cut it in my book.

At the sites I listed and down in Wharton the land is considered state park, not state private property. You're allowed there sunrise to dusk (dont be caught back there after dusk). And don't destroy any wildlife. I've hung out and talked to rangers at all those places too, only vehicles not allowed back there are unregistered OHV's (off-highway-vehicles... like quads and dirtbikes)

Is the other place legal?

I'm right there with ya. Trying to land a full time job this spring, don't need to be dealing with that.
