2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4
I just had my transmission replaced with a used one on my 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 L V-6. The U joint was also replaced. After driving for 900 miles (I was out of town when this happened.) I received a pinging sound from under the truck (I reminds me of loose ball bearings). I think the sound is coming from the middle or just to the back of the truck. This sound is accompanied by a "jurking" now and then. The first jurk was at highway speeds. Now it is happening with in town low speeds. The truck "jurks" and pinging happen only when the truck is moving. Then the truck jurks there is a metal to metal sound as well. Engine sounds good.
Any ideas?

The easiest thing to look for is a loose driveshaft. If that is not the problem, then I would be thinking transmission.

The problem? transfer case. I post this so it may help others. If you are having work done on your transmission. It is always a good idea to have the transfer case checked on 4x4s. Also have the differentals checked. This may avoid problems down the road.
