Pix From UCP on the Rocks/Paragon

but now I always forget until I'm on my way home and realize that I didn't take a single one.
That's what I'm there for, hoss ;)

Sorry i didn't post sooner- I made it home in one piece this time and so did Blackjack  I was just too tired to post!

I know I got some awesome pics, but y'all are gonna have to wait til thursday when get them back (too poor to pay for one hour, sorry).

Realy nice to meet Gerald and Ashli and hear about all the stuff we miss out west- thanks again for the *tries to remember how to pronounce those breakast burritos* um...well, breakfast, lol.

Sorry I didn't push us to go to Roush Creek on Sunday- I felt bad all day for Matt and Doug cuz Chris and I went out and had a blast hiking up to this bad@$$ waterfall in Jim Thorpe- Fuglet, next time you're out, you gotta see this place!!! Well, it's all fun til you slip and fall and bust your butt on a tree stump, but we won't go there :D

Wow. Looks like you guys had a great time, can't wait for more pics.

We had fun!

Ashli and I had a great time, but that was a long way to just wheel for one day, I'll have to plan better if I come up again. It was great to meet more people from the board and put faces on the names.

Ha, and we got to feed a couple of Yankees a real Tex-Mex breakfast! Spas, those were Huevos Rancheros(pronounced "who-way-vos" rancheros) that you and Chris ate. :)

We didn't get many photos either, most were of me on Rattler and the group shot that has already been posted a couple of times, but I did get a good money shot of Matt:

You can click on my photo gallery under my avatar to go see my Paragon photos.

Thanks for the hospitality and I hope to see some of you at Tellico someday!

Wish we coulda stayed overnight down at the campground, but it's kinda tough with the little one .

Gerald, what did you and Ashli think of Gettysburg??

Lindsy, Jim Thorpe is a cool little area. Some really neat little stores, and some good river rafting/canoeing if you're into that kind of thing. Been a while since I was there.

One of these days we're gonna have to do a Rousch Creek trip.........

Ok, when's the next run :D. Sammy will be up on 32" BFG M/T's soon, so I'm ready!!

Hey Gerald, how did you like Paragon compared to some of the other places you've been, like Tellico?

Jeff, we are glad we got to visit Gettysburg; it was very sobering. I had no idea it was so big. I always thought of it more as a single battlefield rather than an entire county area. We could not stay long enough to really tour it - that would take days.

Josh, I only got one day's run in, so I don't know how I would compare it. We did one good rockcrawling trail called "Rattler" that was a fun workout. Paragon is a large area and it seemed like we did a lot of driving on easy trails (Like Trail 1 at Tellico) to get to short runs on harder trails. I would have to try other trails there besides the couple I was on to give an honest assessment. However, of what I saw, Paragon had several stream crossings and seems to be mostly built on what must have been an old coal mine or something. The ground is black as coal and it gets on EVERYTHING. I guess I've always returned from trails covered in dust (like the red dust of Moab or white/grey dust of the Rubicon) but not black, so that was different. I hope it washes out, LOL. And there's a lot of rules - you have to go in groups or with a guide, wear that orange flag, etc. It's a long way up there, so I don't know if and when I'll make it back, but if I do, I'll schedule it so I can spend at least a couple of days so that I can better check it out.

Looks like a lot of fun was had by all. Those are some great pictures.

Yeah i'm kind of with Gerald. I was up there a year or so ago with just 31's. We had a good time, but the only part to me that was fun was the creek crossing. It's 8 hours for me to come up, but it wasn't as fun as i thought it would be. I'm sure i'll come up again now that i'm on 35s.

It is an old strip mine, that's where you get the black dust. That will never wash away, that's the way it is. Just like alot of land here in WV.

Josh, you need to come up and run stuff like Rattler, M, Voodoo, etc. Those will keep you challenged. If ya look at Gerald's pix, you can see some of the fun we had on Rattler.

Yeah that does look like a tricky trail. I will make it up there some day. I had a good time with you guys.

The trails we hit were pretty much low level, I didnt want to take anyone on harder trails as many of you had a long drive home, but for future reference, on coal road, at the bottom of the hill after you leave the registration area, has many hard trails, thats where NEUROC is run, you can spend a whole day easily on one or 2 trails, and they are all very close to the entrance to Paragon, so dont get the wrong idea that its too easy there..... theres a whole other side to Paragon, and any time ya want, id be more then happy ta show you it......

i'm coming out to watch neuroc on the 7th. are you still gonna be in it as a participant Chris?

my winch just came in today and now that the truck is down i'm gonna take my time fabbing up a mount for it so i want to see how other guys have mounted theres and how they use them. i figure Neuroc will be an opportunity to see them used properly.

see ya there

chad

Yeah Chris that's what I was hoping; Paragon is huge and there must be several "tough blue - easy black" level trails that would be a lot of fun, is that correct? - trails a little easier than Rattler that would still provide lots of wheeling fun but still easy enough that more of the group can join along and be able to successfully negotiate the obstacles. I don't want to go hardcore, but do prefer a little challenge on the trail.

It was a little frustrating to drive that far to only get one short day in and then get rained on while we were there, that's all I was saying: that I didn't get to visit long enough and in decent weather to be able to get a taste for what it is really like.

The last major Tellico event, several Texans came, and similar happened; we only got Saturday in, the Texans missed a turn and wasted time before getting to a tough trail, then stuff happened that made it a long night, then Sunday we woke up to rain, so they left. It was Kris Guilbeaux's only time to Tellico and he drove a 2,000 mile roundtrip to wheel one day and leave in rain. I hope he can come back for a better trip next time because he spent all of that time and energy and didn't get nearly enough of a taste of Tellico to show for it. Maybe that's how you think this trip went for me to Paragon, but that's how it goes sometimes and I understand.

Maybe some other time on a nice three day weekend some of us can make the trip up to get a better look-see.

PS: the next time you Yankees invite a Southern foriegner to come wheel with you, have someone else besides Doug give directions :D

Hey! you made it to the park didn't you??? :D You met me do i look like the kind of person who even knows where he is going half the time?

*scratches chin*

Now that you mention it, you do look like the type of person who'd not only set himself on fire while trying to light a campfire with gasoline, but two other explorer owners as well :D :D

I get the pics back tomorrow, gang, hang in there!

Gerald, with any luck maybe some of us will be able to rent a truck and trailer an X or two down to Tellico or even Moab next year!

Story Time!!:D :D :D

let's just say Doug doesn't believe in kindling and paper to start a fire, he prefers to just get it all going with one match. It then takes another 10 min to get the surrounding area that's on fire under control and burns taken care of, but then the fire is going for the rest of the night no problem.
