Well, when I purchased my 2000 Explorer XLT the interior was near mint, ran smooth and the body was almost great shape... The black paid t just shines and you can see very little dings in the paint; that is until you looked at the hood and roof. The clear coat had been severely burnt. I tried to bring it back but it was far too gone.

I wanted to paint it but I've got plans for the ol girl first. So I decided to try my hands at plasti dip. I just wanted to do the hood and roof and give it a little retro look and not have her loom so "weathered". My plan was to do it this weekend while I actually had the weekend off. But it got pushed back to today. I was only able to get the roof done because of the time I had. Considering I don't have a garage and had to do it outside, the results wasn't too bad.

Unfortunately my before pictures got deleted(kids can't leave stuff alone). I'll take some after pictures of the roof and still before picture of the hood (since it hasn't been dipped).

Here are the pictures I took today, the EX was a little dusty from my works parking lot as we have some site work going on.
Faded hood, the roof was way worse:

Been thinking of using bedliner I'm the roof of the Eddie Bauer. It's in ok shape but would be more durable than paint.

Hey thats looking pretty good.

What kind of prep work did you do before applying it, and what did you use to apply it?
If you dont mind me asking.

I have some paint work coming up myself, I like bedliner in some places but not all.
I am thinking about automotive paint and a foam roller, in other areas like my roof.
But maybe plasti dip is something to look at also.

I really do like the color and the sheen you chose, nice work.

Not bad, my explorer is the same color as yours and I've done the plastic gray trim around the wheel wells & the rims with plastidip. My hood is in nearly the same condition as yours, maybe a bit less weathered, but more of the dings show up. Might think about this if yours comes out well.

Plastidip is awesome.

The clear stuff they have makes for a good front end guard. Spray it on as a film and stone chips hit the dip not the paint.
