check the MAF and vacuum leaks

First of all, theres no such thing as a SOHC 5.0, the 5.0s were pushrods, is it the V6 SOHC, or the 5.0 Pushrod?

it sounds like you have gotten some water in the intake, possibly your MAS sensor is wet or now dirty. I would try cleaning the mas and resetting the computer first. unfortunately the ford intake/airbox setup is prone to sucking up water in deep puddles or wet roads

do you happen to have an aftermarket intake?

also there is no such thing as a sohc 5.0L engine

Try the idle tensioner. or the two cables next to the throtle body that make it open, try tighing them, mine came loose and wouldnt idle with out me on the gas either, so i tighten it up, made sure all connections were correct and it idled fine. i think its just a coincidence that its raing cause if rain got in the intake, it would barly run, it would sputter and most likely die out. ive had it happen to a buddies 5.0

a simple test is to unplug the mas and see if it improves

is the check engine light on. most eletricial things will set a code. if there's no light I would look for a vacuum leak, the tps could be wet, do these motors have an egr valve? there could be carbon holding it open if it does.

thank you guys

Well thank you so much for the help and advise form all you guys will check on the MAS for sure to clean it and dry it if possible , the last reply ,,,no light on in the dash board at all ..like I said before only revs properly if the gas pedal is pushed , mind you guys that once warp up the truck the iddle stays ok . but will do this tips all you guys posted and eliminate every step of the way .thank you will keep you posted.
