Anyone have any ideas on this one....
I have an 02 Merc Mountaineer that through a rod, broke a spring, and destroyed my head. After sitting for about 6 months I purchased a re-built engine and have finally installed.
My initial problem was a stray vacuum line, which I cannot find a home for, but I don't think that is my biggest trouble. After the initial installation the engine was running, but just a little rough.. I thought this was due to the old fuel and the vacuum line, but after a test drive the engine died. The engine acts like it wants to crank, but won't fully get going for more that a few seconds and requires the gas to be wide open. Since this, I have done the following in an attempt to get her running again:
-siphoned all the gas I could from the fuel tank (still 1/4 tank left)
-replaced the fuel filter
-gapped the spark plugs correctly and validated spark
-verified correct fuel rail pressure
- verified injectors were not clogged (not recommended, but I was getting desperate)
-change IAC vlave
-checked PCV valve and hose for leak
-attempted to start without MAF sensor
On a side note, when I went to check the injectors I replaced the manifold gaskets again and put everything back together... The engine started right up again at first and then I turned the engine off to do a few tweaks so I could take it for a test drive... Now I'm back to the same problem...
ANY IDEAS??? I am completely out of ideas, time, and money. thanks-
