My husband was changing the camshaft synchronizer on my 1996 ford explorer 5.0 and he dropped the oil gear shaft in the motor, please help!!

If it fell where yyou can see it, fish it out with an extendable pencil magnet.
 






It should be one solid piece. Why did he disassemble it in the first place?
 






My experience with Fords is that the shaft going from the distributor or cam synchronizer to the oil pump is a separate piece. I once pulled the distributor out of a 390 and the shaft fell out and down into the engine. As I recall I had to remove the oil pan to get it out. Major PITA! I hope you can snag it with a magnet or one of those flexible grabby things.
