Please help - transmission question.

Hi, I just purchased a 96 Explorer Eddie Bauer. I hear a clicking noise when I put it in drive or reverse, but when it's in park or neutral, I hear nothing. I am new to this. I don't know much about this vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It’s hard to say. I can’t hear it at all when it’s in park or in neutral and when it’s in drive or reverse I can hear it. The more I accelerate the louder it gets.
