I have a 2000 xlt awd v8.
Behind the rear axle on the drivers side there is a black plastic thing. It has two hoses connected to it and it is attached to the frame. Can somebody please tell me what the hell it is? Its in the way of removing my left rear shock. thanks

I picture may be helpful.

it's the vapour canister for the emissions system,,

It's just a emission type canister for fuel tank. The shock can be removed without taking it out but it will be more tedious. I just used a smaller socket and some small hand wrenches. There are plenty of shock removal threads on this forum for reference.

What does it actually do? And I have the shocks off, I had to grind them as they were pretty rusted. Im pretty sure they were the originals.
