2017 Explorer PIU
My Explorer is a 2017 PIU and I was planning on upgrading my non-auto headlight switch to the auto headlight switch but it appears I need to get the sun load sensor and install at the same time. Time for another ebay visit.

Next to the headlight switch there is a small single row plug with 3 wires (see pics). What is it?? and what is it for? I've been all over the place and cannot find any info.

Thanks

Rich

I have a 2018 and it was just a simple switch out. I don’t have the light sensor and based on what I read, it’s a lot of work anyway. The auto headlamp switch with turn the lights on when the car is in and then turn them off when car is off, that’s good enough for me. I didn’t look for a second set of wires, but I’d remember seeing another option just below the headlamp switch, but I can’t remember what it was…I just know that I was disappointed not to have the option. Perhaps the wiring goes to that?

Here is a picture of my 2011 Limited setup. Unfortunately I don't have one from my 2017. Does the PIU have that row of switches below the headlamp switch? If not, perhaps that is what it is for. :dunno:

Nope, nothing like that on mine.

That could be what the harness is for though. Lots of wiring stuffed in there for options we don’t have
There was another "empty plug" fastened to the dash bracing.
