Hello All,

I am haivng some issues with my 98 expo. I am unable to connect to the pcm using my vcmii. I can connect with my aftermarket software and cable to read info but cannot change anything.

I have traced and checked every wire to and from the pcm to the dlc to the pats module.

when I connect using the vcmii I can only connect to the airbag system.

Any suggestions? Thanks,

Dean

Check your fuses. IIRC the cig lighter fuse (17?).

Good morning.

This morning i disconnected every sensor on the vehicle. Including the trans and all ho2s and vss. Egr, dpfe, vmv, ftp, evap, ect, cam sensor, cruise control. Swapped diodes and relays in power box. I have tried 4 different pcms. All have same tear tag, nrt1.

Cigar lighter has power, i have a usb plug in it and the power light is on.

I have verfier the vcmii on my 2012 escape.

Have any ideas?

Take out the usb plug in the lighter socket and see if anything changes.

still POd but not at the pcm

We found the problem. The VCMII has stopped functioning on pins 2 and 10, only communicates on the newer protocol vehicles.

Found out by testing on another 98 ford and still could not connect. Did some research and found that pins 2 and 10 of the DLC are no longer used in the newer vehicles. This explains why my other cable and software and see everything but that software will not let me make any changes.

Thanks for the help though!

Now I have to find out where I can get this VCMII repaired...

Good trouble shooting, update us where you have you vcmii fixed.
