Poll: How long has your A4LD Lasted?

134,000... on my 93... knock on plastic dash material, it's bone stock and I drive it real easy and service the tranny every 15k or so.

Now that I've said that... tomorrow will be the day...

As of now I have over 111,000 miles on my 92 Sport. Except for it spitting transmission fluid out the vent pipe when it overheats (Have some ideas why it's doing so and trying the simple things to fix it first), it shifts great and doesn't slip gears.

My odometer hit 287,000 today. Realistically it probably has more than because it has bigger tires and I never changed the speedo gear. It still has the original engine and tranny. I can't say that I've babied it. I got the truck when I was 16 so it endured the abuses of male teenage driving.

I take it to the trails whenever I get the chance, and I tow a boat all summer. I don't know how and I don't know why, but the tranny feels like new.

Mine is close to 150K, not quite. Gave me a scare last year but it was just the speed sensor.

However... I've run an extra tranny cooler since new and regular fluid changes. Also towed a 3000 lb boat regularly for about 5 years in summer. Mixed usage.

My 01 X Sport is sitting on original 92,x.. and still seems as though it is fine. And I haul 700+ newspapers nightly. During the week is no big deal but sunday papers weigh anywhere from 3 to 5lbs a piece X 700 = 2100-3500lbs.

I was told (by a person who used rebuilds transmissions for a living, still does now for friends) to not change the transmission fluid if it wasnt replaced in the first 45K. This is because the walls of the transmission build up a tarnish after so many miles. If you change the fluid, the new fluid will take off all the tarnish and leave it to the bare metal and will soon go out (within 5-15000 miles). She says that half the people she sees said they just replaced the fluid not so long ago for the first time, and always after 50k. She says 45k to just be safe.

I would think so. I bet it would fall apart if you tried to change fluid though. An Ex with that much mileage is impressive in and of itself, not to mention a tranny that is notorius for failure.

i know that that trans cant go on much longer and im not changing the fluid because there's no point now. im making it my goal to get 400,000 on there and not do anything with the tranny....we shall see

I rebuilt mine at 120,000 miles.
It would go in reverse, but nothing else.
Now it works great.

My dad bought the truck new in march 94, and his first tranny went @ 65k ,then again at 72k,(warranty),then again @81k (ford did the work fluid poured out on its way down the ramp) bringing it to 4 rebuilds while he had it then one since I got it with 130k on it and its misbehaving again! if it goes I want to swap it out for something diffrent any ideas?

Yeah they make an adapter for the chevy 700r4 might want to try that, I'm going to rebiuld a 700r4 real soon, for the next time my a4ld goes out.

92 xlt, got mine at 56k, just got mine rebuilt at 120k, but also beat the bag out of it for a while. My first problem was getting stuck on the trails in the snow. I grabbed my girlfriends K5 blazer to pull it out, my friend was in my explorer. He was absolutely whailin on my tranny, spinninng the tires and what not (in 4lo!), i was screamin at him to chill.. next morning i got in no reverse no forward.. totally burned the fluid. I changed the filter and fluid, it crutched along for another six months. Forward clutch, was toast... got away for a rebuild for $1500. Im happy with my purchase, he did a really good job, upgrades and all..

Mine went at 80,000. Now its at 88,000

This is mostly of topic but my Dads 1986 Dodge Ram 50 finally died at 575,000 on it.
NOTHING was replaced since it was bought. The only thing that was ever changed was the battery and the oil. IS this a dodge record?
