Ok current situation.

1999 Mercury Mountaineer

Factory Deck (steering controls, rear audio, factory/sub&amp)

The display is out on my deck which I'm waiting for the new board to come in the mail.

At the current time I thought the sub was bad so before testing it I ordered a new kicker comp sub and proceeded to remove all the rear sub stuff and replace the stocker. I tested the stock sub when i pulled it out and it works fine.

When i turn up the stereo the sub moves but just barely.

I'm curious if the fade affects the sub output as I cannot currently see any of the settings on my factory deck.

I also opened up the factory amp and it appears to be perfect internally. There are no burn marks or brown spots like there was on the messed up display board from my deck.

thoughts.??????????

I put in new kicker door speakers and plan on keeping the factory amp for my sub if possible or replace it with another stock one. I am keeping the factory deck as well.

I plan to add in the future a 3.5 jack using the peripheral kit that replaces the cd changer port.

One more question- Which other vehicles use the same factory amp? will the ones out of mustangs work the same? there seem to be a large amount of those and ones for expeditions available for a decent price on ebay.

Thank you,

Thomas

IMO the factory sub amp is the weak link. Back in the days when I had a couple of Image Dynamics 12" dvc subs, I hooked em to the factory amp and the sound was actually worse than with the more efficient factory driver. If the factory amp puts out any more than 25-30 usable low frequency watts I would be surprised. I'd also be surprised if it responds below 80hz very well.
