I'm taking a road (2800 miles) trip and would like to purchase a portable air compressor. I've seen units that you can charge at home or on the road.
They are all about the same physical size. I just want the piece of mind of having one.
Any brands better then others.

What have you had good luck with?

Recommendations?

Thanks

Up here in my area there are several pawn shops that have some small compressors for sale very cheap. Also check your local paper as well. You should be able to find a small compressor for under $100. I have heard and seen people take propane tanks and convert them into air compressors.

Good luck!

Car and shop air compressors are very different, and in each catagory come in different levels. I carry in my truck a $20 K-Mart air compressor to inflate tires after airing down, or in case of emergency. It also works great on inflatible toys!

For the home, I'm using a 5hp 5.5cfm@90 /30gal tank Husky compressor to run air tools. This thing is huge, and $$$$.

They do make compressors for trucks that can run air tools, ARB lockers, and whatnot. But a home compressor draws about 15Amps - you'd need one heck of an inverter, battery, alternator combo to run it successfully on the side of the raod.

I found a Campbell Hausfeld portable air compressor at Home Depot for about $40.
It charges up on 110v and holds a charge, also runs on 12 volt

It's really a neat unit and pretty compact, about the size of a lunch box.

Thanks for all the help!:)

There is one that wal-mart sells for about $50 called Truck Air. I have heard it' s supposed to be pretty good. Has anyone else heard of it? Opinions?

Got the Campbell Hausfeld from wallmart at $40. Its nice having its own battery. Nice portability and good pressure, strong motor.

The truck air one works great..

It makes .4cfm (don't remember what psi that was at)..

What I like about it, is that it doesnt' burn up when you run it for a long time.....

I was using it to keep my 10gal air tank full for a few hours while I was shooting my pnumatic(sp?) spud cannon.. It ran contineously for over 2 hours maintaining 70-130psi in the tank at all times...
