Hi there, i have a Ford Explorer 1997 XLT 4.0 SOHC and what i just noticed that i have a rear posi diff but never cross in my mind to check first and i thought it was a standard open diff, but i already bought a Powertrax no slip locker 92-0688-3108 and im not sure if will fit...

Cna any one help me if this still possible to install just remove the spider gears/clutches inside and replace it to no slip lockers? or my diff has to be standard to fit this no slip locker kit...?

please help, i need this done as soon as possible or maybe i have to sell this one and leave it as it is...

For what i heared the posi is good for on track but not off road when one wheel off the ground and never can compare 100% traction than the no-slip when it locks....

Not sure if I looked into the no slip but any locker I checked out needed a non ls carrier. Call them and ask or call east coast gear supply, good guys, they'll help

yeah that was i thought, i think my rear diff has to be standard to be able to insatall the no slip locker....

I need to make sure before i return this Powertrax of mine or maybe sell it online, i waited for ages and looked into this for a long time because they were out of stock and finally found one but then i think its not gonna fit into my posi rear diff....:mad::mad:

thanks too 4rd4life....

Yup. They do make a No Spin for open and another for a LS case. I have a LS case in both Green (94 Sport) and Sissy (97 Sport). And I'm running a No Spin in each of them. Just make sure your go/no go measurement is correct. They are really nice, I really like them.

Just an easier and cheaper option would be to rebuild that L/S. You can get the cobra carbon fiber clutches and new Z spring for under $150. Now if you have a lead foot like me and 33"+ tires you might want to do a full carrier upgrade because the OEM L/S carrier is the weak point in the rear end, it will crack in half under a hard load.

Now for hard offroading you want an actual locker and no L/S at all. If you lift a tire with most L/S rear ends the one in the air will be the only one spinning.

does work good off road? im thinking LS is good for pavement only (on road)..

I used to follow a guy around in Colorado and Utah. He was so good with a stock open diff 4x4 that I needed a locker to go the places he did. I still follow him around from time to time but he has lost the need to go to those difficult places. The No Spin is a full on locker. It will out work a LS off road.

Bloomin does have a point though if you beat on your stuff hard. I don't. I like my stuff and don't like to work on it all the time. I am happy with the way the No Spin works in both of my Explorers.
