I am considering buying an eddie bauer 1998 explorer,
and am very excited about owning on . I have heard that there may be a problem with the SOHC engine and is quite expensive to have replaced. Can anyone enlighten me as to any historical problems with this engine or any other possible problems with this suv
thank you John Corrigan:bounce:

Welcome I cant help ya but these guys can figure anything out good to have more Canucks on here.

I have a 97 Bauer with a SOHC motor, it is on its second motor, the first one blew up. My mom came home from a trip and parked it and then started it up the the next morning and it sounded like a......well like hell. Anyway, it had thrown a rod among other things and we got a replecement, it ran us around $4000+. luckily it was under warranty so we got a 99 SOHC motor for free...i aint complaining..but i drive the heck out of it now( i am young so it is innevidable). The car was given to me and it has yet to give me a problem even after the hell i give it, i think that overall it is a great motor and we just got unlucky with it...take this as you want, this is just my experience...
