well i just went and test drove it.

drives great...very nice condition....

also found out it has tint, roof rack, and full tow package.

only downside is that the CEL is on b/c it needs two O2 sensors. the owner said he would get those fixed and then sell it to me for..

$2300.

good deal?

Sounds like a decent deal to me as long he does fix it. I would offer him $2,000 though, worst he could say is no....

I would say go for it, just make sure it doesn't have any transmission problems....

we already bargained and the end price was $2300 if he got the repairs done.

So i think thats a good deal, right?

everything worked, all the electronics, paint and interior were very nice, tires were good (50% tread left).

the only thing that i hate is that it is 2wd.

are the 2wd explorers really bad in the snow compared to AWD?

amen to that, and yes awd is probably a lot better in snow, oh and since apparently you get a lot of snow, check on the rust situation underneath.

well it is official.

a few more days and $2300 dollars spent and i'll be owning the truck.

i'm excited.

I'm started to second guess my decision.

i've done some searching and have found some trucks in similar condition and mileage to mine but with AWD or 4x4 for around the same price.

should i hold out until i find a 4x4 or should i just pick up this great condition 4x2.

the winters around here are rough sometimes and it would probably come in handy.

Let me add something. Check around the rear doglegs for rust. If there is any rust at all I would be very careful buying it. It might not look like much but when I started picking at the rust on mine it was awful. I could fit my fist through the holes that were left. Take a good look at the rocker panels underneath too. And my opinion...I would buy a 4x4 instead of the 4x2.

Check the axle code on the information tag on the door frame. This will tell you what gear it has and possibly a limited slip, a LS will help a lot on snow. It will also let you know if the tow package was factory or aftermarket depending on gearing. If it has a open gear and too high of gear then I hold keep looking.

i am really having trouble deciding.

this one is in great condition, and has all the good options. but i think i should wait for a 4x4.

someone got any other insight?

yeah tell him to give you $2000 and you'll take it off his hands for him!

Where are you located?

FYI, AWD is not the same as 4WD. The V6 is only available in 2WD or 4WD. The V8 is available in 2WD and AWD.

4X4 is a nice option to have when the going gets rough.

you mentioned it has a tow package. just to warn you, those transmissions love to overheat and break, so i would add a big transmission cooler before doing any towing with it. (as well as change the trans fluid since most people neglect it)

We have all been in your position, and that is why we are all here.
