I have a 96 Explorer 4 door. The front door switches will only unlock the doors, but there is another switch back by the rear hatch and it will lock and unlock both. Anyone have a clue where I should look?

Do they lock and unlock using the passenger side door switch or rear door switches for the individual doors?

if they work from the passenger side button, you probably have a broken wire in the driver's side door jam. very common problem.

you likely have the rotted wiring splice in the left rear passenger door raceway. Lots of posts, some with pictures, relatively easy fix with new wiring / resplice.

+1 for budwich on this. If both front doors fail to lock from either front switch, but both doors do lock from the rear switch, that indicates that the problem is not in the driver's or passenger's door jam, but is at the splice under the driver's rear door jam. Good luck.

trace the wires, trace the ground, and dont do a half-assed wire repair, youll regret it soon

The only place you can lock them is at the back. None of the door buttons will lock, but they all unlock. The button at the back works both ways.

The "hint" that I gave is a good one... don't believe then try searching a bit... you will find the answer in the replacement / fixing of the splice.

Well, Y'all nailed that one good. That was exactly what the problem was, Thanks! That was really cruddy for that type of connector too.
