When i unlock my truck via remote ( viper 790xv ), the doors dont unlock. the alarm will disarm, but the doors wont unlock. if i used the keypad, the doors dont unlock. i have to use the key to unlock the door. then when i get in the truck, the drivers side unlock/lock button does not work.

However, the passenger side unlock/lock works fine. do you think its something as simple as the unlock switch wires came loose on the drivers side, and the alarm is linked to the drivers side unlock./lock?

The problem is in the driver's side power door lock circuit. When you activate the alarm do the doors lock? Use the alarm remote while sitting in the driver's seat. You should be able to hear the alarm's relays clicking on and off for both the lock/unlock cycles. If you hear the relays on both then it confirms your alarm is working and sending the power to the door lock circuit. It is possible a loose wire is the problem and would occur if the alarm was not adequately installed. You can trace the alarm wires back to the drivers door side to see where they lead and look for obvious problems. A lot of shops use std wiring harnesses which make installation a slam dunk. If wires are manually crimped then they are prone to vibrate loose over time...(I always solder all my connections).

so i changed the oil in my truck today. the unlock on the drivers side still didnt work. i went to class.. got out at 910pm, and the unlock from the remote and drivers side door worked. im assuming the wire is loose somewhere. i might bring it to the alarm shop sometime to have it checked out and make sure the alarm isnt causing the problem.

well the unlock still does not work. Does anyone have any suggestions on where i should start looking? could it be a back switch? the lock works so im assuming the switch is still good. should i rip the door skin off? or under the dash maybe where the alarm is hooked up? suggestions please?

Does the remote button or keypad work to lock the door?

Pull off your door panel and check in there first. 90% of all problems occur in the door or in the connector from the door to the body.

Do you have a copy of the wiring diagram? If not let me know and I can scan the one from my Chiltons manual and email it to you. the book only goes up to 99 but i'm pretty sure the 00 is the same.

my remote or the outside door keypad does not work. it is warmer here, about 30 degrees, but still not as warm as i would like to rip the door skin off. ill have to take a look in a month or two.

Check one other thing: There is a very small gauge (tiny) spring in the door latching mechanism. It's hard to see, but you should be able to view it with a flashlight by opening the door, bending over and shining the light into the small hole by the latch.

Mine spring rusted into oblivion over the years. The spring is designed to keep the door lock rod/peg in the "up" position when the door is unlocked. Without it, the driver's side door will often lock when you shut the door...the weight of the locking rod and gravity will cause the door to lock. The other doors will remain open.

The cost of a new latch is about $150...I've learned to live it. I just punch the remote until it unlocks or use the key.
