Hello,

Can anyone offer any info...my 02 Explorer (4door with hatch) power locks suddenly stopped working. None of the switches work and the rear hatch will not open. The remote and the keypad are also not working. I can hear clicking from the passenger side C pillar, I've checked the fuses and none are blown. Nothing will lock or unlock the doors using the power. I'm at a dead end, can anyone help?? Please let me know.

Thanks.

The Central Security Module is located behind the lower trim panel on the passenger side C pillar. It contains solid state relays for the door lock actuators. That must be what the clicking you hear is from. Sounds like you've got a wiring problem between the CSM and the actuators. Probably you are gonna find this in the wire bundle between the driver's door and the door frame where it goes through the rubber boot. Wires get stretched in there and eventually break. This is a pretty common location for wiring problems with locks, puddle lamps, windows, and other stuff.

See this post for good info on how to get the door panel off and open up the rubber boot:

Good luck.

C pillar? The name doesn't mean anything to me. I have a 2003 (1/03) Limited and am trying to find the Central Security Module, CSM. All automated functions have quit. Lights, locks, remotes, memory seats.

Solution found

Judeaux,

Thanks for the link. Really shows the right way to get the trim off without breaking.

After going round and round with the drivers door wiring, fuses, and relays; I was headed for the CSM to see if it had died. But like all good forum members I came back to the forum one last time looking for electrical gremlins. I found one. Fuse circuit #20 which had tested good with a fuse tester, tested bad when removed and tested with a meter.

Examining the fuse I noticed that the pins do move alittle. With vibration it could very well be that the fuse is fatigued and just needs periodic replacement.

Thanks for the help.
