Power Steering fluid oddity

The following only occurs when the ignition is on but the engine is not turned over.

I'll turn the wheel to the left and fluid from the power steering unit physically shoots up, knocking the lid off and making me add some more.

Any ideas? Otherwise it steers just fine.

Believe it or not that's normal. I never liked that "feature". :rolleyes:

this is a feature? i keep having to buy power steering fluid. annoying!

Try shutting your motor off and then cranking the steering wheel over...it'll blast the top off the power steering fluid resivoir and spray the underside of your hood with fluid....been there...done that....what a freakin' mess :fire: !
 






This is your pumps normal way of removing the excess fluid. Stop adding more and you wont have a problem =)
 






the black foam thing on my hood is all saggy in that area from repeated blasts... first time I couldnt figure out what had happened...

you could just stop crankin the wheel around with the car off...
 






normal, its designed to do this for reasons beyond my comprehension.

Then don't do it!
 






The first time this happened to me, I invented some new curse words, I had just cleaned the motor, and that crap went everywhere!
