I am wanting to change out my power steering fluid and ive read to refill it with mercon automatic trans fluid. Is this correct? And if im just doing a basic fluid change would simply siphoning the fluid out of the reservoir until its empty and refilling with new fluid be sufficient?

I use a combination of lucas steering fluid and prestone with stop leak

remember there is still fluid in your pump, rack, and lines

I pull the return line from the reservoir and plug the hole in it and extend the line to a milk jug and fill the reservoir and turn on the engine and turn lock to lock checking the fluid and keeping it full till I see clean fluid coming out

then i put the return line back, fill her up, and turn lock to lock a few times, fill her up again, the take it for a test drive with a few turns. refill when i get back home

if the reservoir is really yucky you might pull it and clean it with soap and water before flushing the system
